Nick Schultz was elected to serve the 44th District in the California State Assembly in November 2024, where he currently serves as the Chair of the Assembly Public Safety Committee.
Previously, Nick served on the Burbank City Council as a Mayor and Councilmember. On the Council, he was instrumental in implementing policies that increased economic opportunity, reduced crime, expanded environmental protections, and expanded affordable housing.
Nick has devoted his professional career to public service. Prior to being elected to the Legislature, he served as a Deputy Attorney General with the Special Prosecutions Section of the Attorney General’s Office with the California Department of Justice, where he worked with local, state, and federal law enforcement officials to investigate and prosecute criminal cases primarily related to public corruption, officer involved shootings, human trafficking, mortgage fraud, tax evasion, and other forms of financial fraud. After law school, Nick served as a Deputy District Attorney in Oregon.
Nick personally understands the hardships the average Californian faces every day. He was largely raised by a single mother who worked to give him every available opportunity to succeed. He is the first person in his working-class family to attend and graduate from college. Throughout his childhood, Nick and his family were uninsured or underinsured, and often lacked access to consistent medical and dental care. Nick worked his way through school and earned a bachelor’s degree and a law degree from the University of Oregon.
Growing up, Nick’s maternal grandparents were a big part of his life. In particular, his grandfather, Bernie, was a role model in Nick’s formative years. Bernie was a union member with IAM (machinist and aerospace workers), and he helped instill in Nick an ironclad belief in the ability of working people coming together and changing the world. Nick took to heart these early lessons and has applied them to a career of public service for the betterment of his community.
